When Onyx caught up with Miguel Forte in Dublin, he told us that treating patients is now real – the first commercial cell and gene therapy products have changed lives, and the meeting's 2,500-plus delegates are working on what comes next – but technology, business models and patient access have all yet to catch up with the science.

Forte, who is both President of ISCT and CEO of the stem cell biotech Kiji Therapeutics, has built his ISCT presidency around three priorities – global presence for local impact, ethics, and patient access – and added a fourth pillar to the society: clinical.

ISCT has grown from a community of mostly basic scientists to a society where regulators, academics, industry and clinicians are all in the same room to discuss the year ahead.
